The sport was born in Scotland around 1511 the first description was founded over a stone better known like the "Stirling Stone".
It was played with stones different in shape and weight, no handle, chosed from the river banks and throwed on a frozen surface.

Starting from 1600 have been used a sort of handle and a kind of broom. Many reports about Curling appered also in scottish poetry and lirics.
At this time, the sport was also depicted in Flemish paintings by Pieter Bruegel and Jacob Grimmer.

The first official club, the Curlers of Kilsyth, was founded in 1716, in Stirlingshire (Scotland).

Only in 1775 we have some news about using of special circular stones with steel handle and in 1838, when was founded the "Royal Caledonian Club", dimension and weight of them were fixed.

The first rules book was published in 1838 by the "Royal Caledonian Curling Club".

Curling was admissed as official sport by the FISG (Federazione Italiana Sport su Ghiaccio) in 1953 and only in 1973 it was annexed to the WCF (World Curling Federation).

European and world championship are regulary held every year and since 1922 the WCF has been admitted to the Olympic games. The first exibition was in Nagano (Japan) 1998.

Italian Team will compete for the first time in Torino 2006 Olympic games.
